Meet The 2025 Performers

This year’s Lizard Sea Shanty Festival brings together a wonderful mix of voices — some old friends returning, some exciting new faces, and a few acts who are just a little different from the rest.

Every one of our performers shares something special, they sing and play not for fame or fortune, but for the sheer love of what they do, and for the joy of raising smiles and supporting worthy causes.

From rollicking shanties to heartfelt harmonies, from the familiar to the unexpected, our line-up promises to fill the village with music, laughter, and community spirit.

We’re proud to welcome them all to our stage, and we can’t wait for you to hear them.

2025 Shanty Fest Poster Boy.

Some know him as Jason, others as Pilchard The Pirate. He can be seen singing with prestigious Lemonaires, banging a drum with the Falmouth Marine Band or up to shenanigans with his brother Lee around Cornwall.

To us, he is Pilchard the Pirate and leader of Pirate Parades.

This year, in our infinite wisdom we appointed him as ‘𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫’ and will open the festival on Friday 5th September at 5.50 pm.

He’ll be calling yer to the shanties with more arrr than ‘oh ye’ – so grab yer finest pirate gear, polish up yer “Arrr” and join the crew for a rousing start to the weekend.

Our first performers of the 2025 festival – For the first time, we’re thrilled to welcome Mullion School Choir to this year’s festival, and they will proudly showcasing their brilliant vocal ensembles – Vocal Notes and the brand-new Mullion Vocal Pods.

Vocal Notes was founded in 2023 and brings together enthusiastic singers from Years 7 to 11.

With a strong focus on contemporary three-part harmony, the group has quickly built a reputation for polished and energetic performances.

They have showcased their talents at regional events such as the Music for Youth Festivals and the County Music Festivals, representing the vibrant musical spirit of their school and local community.

In 2025, Mullion School launched a second ensemble, the Mullion Vocal Pods, to nurture advanced vocal skills and develop close harmony singing among its students.

This group offers an exciting platform for young vocalists to grow musically while exploring more intricate repertoire.

Together, Vocal Notes and the Mullion Vocal Pods bring a fresh and youthful take on traditional and contemporary sea shanties, and are delighted to be performing at this year’s Lizard Sea Shanty Festival.

Our very first all-ladies sea shanty group and we are very excited to have them on board.

Since their debut in 2014, they’ve inspired a whole flotilla of female shanty groups and have become seasoned favourites on the circuit.

With haunting harmonies, rollicking rhythms, and a playful sense of fun, they share the stories of the sea – and the people who make their living from it – in their own magical way.

Expect laughter, sing-alongs, and music that will stay with you long after the night is over.

Across the shanty world, they’re hailed as a “breath of fresh air” – and we’re proud to have them perform on our stage.

Across the shanty circuit, they’re known as a true “breath of fresh air” – and we can’t wait to welcome them.
